DeKalb County ranks 16th in the state for health outcomes, according to the annual County Health Rankings & Roadmaps report conducted by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Forsyth County nabbed the top spot as the healthiest county in the state.
DeKalb fell behind 5th-place Gwinnett (5th) and 11th-place Fulton counties in the 10th annual County Health Rankings of health outcomes, but ahead of Douglas (31st) and Clayton (69th) counties. The outcome rankings represent measures of how long people live and how healthy they feel.
The survey finds that 26 percent of adults in DeKalb County are considered obese, below the statewide average of 30 percent. The county also had fewer per capita smokers and less physical inactivity than the rest of the state. However, its rates of sexually transmitted infections and deaths from alcohol-impaired driving were higher than the state's average.
