DeKalb County commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to delay a vote on proposed rules for data centers until May 12.
Commissioner Robert Patrick urged commissioners to wait until completion of this year's session of the General Assembly, where state lawmakers are expected to consider rules that would govern the controversial facilities.
The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners said there would be a public hearing on the zoning rules when the vote is taken in May.
DeKalb County currently has a moratorium on data centers that has been extended through June 23, 2026.
Separately, commissioners voted to delay until March 10 a decision on whether DeKalb County should conduct a countywide health and environmental impact study before any Land Disturbance Permits are issued for data centers. A committee would consider the proposal on February 26.
Commissioners set the same timetable for a proposal to give the county Public Health department $15,000 to study the health and environmental impacts of data centers on local communities.
