Former DeKalb County Sheriff Jeff Mann has dropped his appeal over the revocation more than two years ago of his Georgia law enforcement certification, allowing a state board to finalize the action against him.
The Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council suspended Mann's license on Sept. 27, 2017 after he pleaded guilty to charges of obstruction and prohibited conduct that stemmed from his May 6, 2017 arrest for publicly exposing himself to an Atlanta police officer and then leading the officer on a foot chase late at night in Piedmont Park.
Media reports indicate that Mann, who resigned effective November 30, decided to no longer seek the reinstatement of his Georgia license. A hearing on his appeal had been scheduled for this month.
Then-Gov. Nathan Deal suspended Mann for 40 days after the 2017 incident. For a time, Mann was not allowed to visit parks in the City of Atlanta.
Mann was elected in July 2014 to fill the remainder of the term of former sheriff Tom Brown, who left the position in an unsuccessful run for the congressional seat held by Hank Johnson. Brown was re-elected sheriff in 2016, winning a four-year term that he did not complete.
