DeKalb legislators object to proposed new voting machines

Legislation that would call for new touchscreen voting machines in Georgia has been sent to Georgia's governor. The Georgia House passed a measure approved one day earlier in the state Senate, the Associated Press reports.
Two DeKalb state lawmakers had earlier disagreed with the plan, which is intended to create a voting paper trail. An Associated Press report the day of the Senate vote quoted Senate Minority Leader Steve Henson (D-Stone Mountain) as saying the bill is inconsistent with state law because it does not include an estimate of its fiscal impact. State Sen. Elena Parent (D-Atlanta) says hand-marked ballots would more accurately reflect votes than the new system of touchscreens that could print a paper ballot after votes are cast.
